Frequently asked questions about commissioning a pet portrait from Catherin
Do you work from Photographs?
Yes I always work from photos. Animals just don't sit still long enough for a portrait to be drawn. So for this reason I use photographs. The quality of the photo or image you forward is directly related to the finished drawing. For that reason I ask for good clear images.
How many photographs /images should I send?
3 to 4 good quality clear images. I always work from one main photo and use the others for reference.
Can I use my favorite photo?
Yes this is fine. But make sure that is a clear image. Showing the correct coat colouring, nose colouring (if the nose isn't black) and eye colour.
Will my original photographs be returned to me?
Certainly. These will be returned with your portrait. I recommend that you only send copies of your precious photo's.
I always make copies of original photographs so I'm not handling your precious images whilst working on your portrait. This way your originals stay nice and clean.
Can I email images?
Yes. But make sure that they have good resolution. You may have to send them in separate files if they are large files.
Turnaround to delivery?
The time depends upon the number of commissions I am working on at the time. Turnaround is usually 6 to 8 weeks for single pet portrait images.
If there is a large number of images in your portrait delivery may be a little longer I will advise you if this is the case when ordering.
For portraits containing people please allow 3 months turn around time.
Christmas Orders?
These should be placed by the middle of October to ensure you have them for Christmas. Gift vouchers are available after this date. These will be completed as early in the new year as possible.
Do you provide Laybyes?
Yes I do provide a 3 month laybye service. A non refundable fee of $100.00 is applicable to laybyes this covers the cost of materials should you change your mind before final payment and delivery is made. So please bear this in mind if you request a laybye. Regular payments must be made.
Payment
How do I pay for my portrait?
Australian commissions
Can be paid by either direct debit, personal cheque or money order. Once the money has cleared at the bank you will be notified that the portrait has been sent. Let me know when you place your order how you will be paying for the portrait.
Overseas commissions
Can be paid for with Pay Pal who accept most internationally recognised credit cards. Pay pal guarantees that the transactions are 100% secure.
Do I pay upfront?
Full payment is not required before commencement, however a non refundable booking fee of $50.00 is required.
When your portrait is finished I will email you a preview of the portrait. Once you are happy with the portrait, I then ask that the balance of payment be made prior to shipping.
Cancellations
If you wish to cancel your commission, please notify me as soon as possible. There will be a cancelation fee of 20% fee based on the total cost of payment. This is to cover , administration, emails and mockups. If I have already started your portrait, there will be a charge for the time spent working on it.
Packaging
How will my finished portrait arrive?
Portraits being delivered within Australia come wrapped in bubble wrap and boxed. They are delivered to your door by a Courier Service. Someone will need to be there to receive delivery as a signature is required. If this isnt possible a calling card will be placed in your box for collection from the Couriers Depot.
Overseas portraits are covered with a special paper (this prevents the pastle from rubbing) then placed in a tube. All overseas portraits are sent Air Mail.
Damage in Transit
In the unlikely event that a drawing is damaged in transit, the artwork must be sent back to me in its original packaging, upon which I will repair or replace it. Please take a photograph of the damaged packaging and artwork and email this to me.
Overseas clients, please take photos of the artwork and email these to me to discuss the best course of action. All artwork shipped within Australia by courier is covered by insurance. For this reason I always recommend International shipmenting costs include insurance.
Copyright Information
I retain copyright on all the artwork I create. All commissioned artwork is displayed in one of may gallery pages. Customer names, in whole or in part may be used as a testimonial in the customer comments and on the testimonial page. If you would prefer me not to display your comments please let me know when your preview is emailed.
Selected artworks may be licensed to a small cross stitch company in the UK. I will how ever not do this without your consent.
